Its 8 mile each way if you start at burning bear campground. You can hike DOWN from Mt. Evans Rd. and its maybe 4 miles each way. Ive caught some pigs there most times I catch little or none. Its more a training hike for the Winds-

God perfect scenery. Fishing on top of the world. Even better is Frozen lake slightly to the west of Abyss. 12,950 feet high! You aint gonna find a higher lake with fish in it! Even better hike and scenery- A bucket list lake hike I think- Hand over fist up a sheer cliff with a waterfall next to you-

And then when the storms roll in---

dallasdb Look at the time it takes him to hike it. It has to be 8 miles each way unless he is crawling!

dallasdb I've been working on getting healthier.

I'm 6'1" 200 lbs and in decent shape but have been feeling less than stellar the last year.

Definitely lack of exercise, sleep and sunlight. Too much work, stress and commuting.

Haven't hardly drank alcohol since the New Year and have been exercising more.

Wasn't a drinker anyways but figured since I'm not getting drunk it's a waste of calories and money!

I feel a lot better and want to get back into fighting shape.

Plan to camp, hike and fish a lot more this year as well as hunt some small game.

slayerfish I've been doing the 12 oz. lifts and Margarita Curls lately. Dragging a sled ice fishing helps a little-

im trout of here Nothing lame about it, I've been doing the same thing on the treadmill in the gym here at work.

dallasdb Thanks for the info Slayer.

It may be lame but I started doing the treadmill at full incline and 3.5-4 mph to try and get some better endurance.

I was running a few miles or doing sprints a few times a week but then I'd still get winded hiking so I'm going to switch it up to hiking on the treadmill.

I told my fiance that I'm going to start doing it with a loaded pack and she couldn't hold back the laughter!

Hey, I can't get out and hike everyday but I can at least train when I get home

slayerfish 2 mph is a good speed if you are loaded. 30-50lbs. if just a light daypack 3 mph is good.

Devils Thumb is 13 mile RT. I can do it in 5.5 hrs.Thats bringing waders and such. 2.36 MPH
When I bring my freekin float tube I slow down to like 1.5-2 mph. That thing weighs a ton.

Hiking MPH

For those of you that hike to fishing spots.

What is an average mile per hour during the summer versus the winter?

I've seen some posts from Tang and Slayer where you guys are doing 6-8 mile round trip hikes.

How long does it take you to hike that distance?

Trying to increase my endurance for long hikes and wondering what pace I should try and keep.
