What brand fishing line are you using? I went out and bought some 6lb line, every time I make a cast the line in mid air would tangle and turn into a knot, what's a good brand to buy?
Thanks for any help!

Yeah, what he said^^^

There is a right way and wrong way to wind the line off a spool with spinning reels. I just make about 10 reel cranks and let the line fall slack, if it coils up and twists, you gotta flip the spool around. If it just relax's in a pleasant coil, you have it on the correct side.

Trilene XL is all I fish for mono on spinning reels

I don't know what brand this is, I bought this big spool a few years ago. I'm thinking it was really cheap and i'm thinking pretty old. (Bought it on sale) I think from now on i'll watch what I buy and make sure I keep fresh like on my reels! Hey thanks guys for ALL the advice, i'll be buying Trilene XL and i'll try the hot water!

Trilene 100% is worth the money... As strong as any line I've ever used. Has a bit more memory than Seagar or Sunline fluro, but tolerable. If you are looking for a single line to do everything, Trilene XL is really good for the money. It does have quite a bit of stretch, but based on your question, your not there yet.

I have to mostly agree here...I have used 100% a lot to chase the big wipers that used to be in abundance at atown and as a result used it at times in other locals as a shore bound bait rod while casting with a second rod...since it sinks like a rock compared to mono it has a tendency to get intertwined with snags on the bottom...

I like it too.. but it's not mono. Good line that serves a lot of purposes. Has more memory than XL though, so shorter casting distance and less stretch. I know some folks who hate Yozuri Hybrid, but I've had good luck with it, especially the ultra soft.

If i'm using a spinning reel, it's probably going to have some kind of braid on it.
100% of the time unless I'm ice-fishing. Even then braid is the main line. Mono for me is worthless. Spent more money per year on line using mono than I ever will using braids. While all the suggestions here are good; save yourself lots of headache and heartbreak or lost fish and lures and go to braids/floro.

Even crappie don't seem to care about braided line if its the right size.....

Just to be clear, I am not promoting mono... just throwing out info. I use mono, hybrid, some braid (not much) and fluoro.. it's good to understand the differences so you can have what you need on your set ups.. also what to use if you only have one or two rods and need them to do a lot of things.

My "GO TO" spinning setup is about 60-70 Yds of 10lb NANO FILL GREEN; (on a backing, of course) with about a 4' leader of 8lb Berkley Trans Optic Flouro Leader.....
Yes, The "Nano" does tend to wear out over the course of 2-3 months..
I just "reverse" the old line from the original spool onto a second spool... like brand new....

for fly fishing, it's a lot different... in my opinion the speed and flex of your rod is the biggest factor in hooking/landing fish with a flyrod.

There is a lot to your questions... trying to weed through it is painful. I am happy to elaborate, but maybe put it in one post.
