Pilotfly Never brave enough to do cliff diving. However, something a little less convinced me that diving isn't my thing. Grew up in Aurora and used to swim in the local pool located on DelMar Circle. (Don't know if the pool is still there or not). Got the idea I was the world's next diving sensation. Dove off the high diving board trying to execute a double somersault. Miss calculated turns and ended up belly flopping. Right then and there decided I wasn't cut out for diving.

Sorry to hear about the death but accidents do happen. Need to be somewhat smart about what we think is safe and what isn't.

slayerfish Did some drunkin cliff diving at Seminoe res. Drove boat around under cliffs to ascertain depth. Fun stuff highest were 30 ft.

Micorps Yep my max was 40 ft, did it a few times feet first but the last jump wind must have pushed me and hit surface on my back, never again. This was at an old mine pit filled with water in northern mn.

dallasdb Holy cow! That made the hair on the back of my neck stand up snagged up.

snagged up I used to know someone who told the story of a friend that jumped into an old open pit mine.
Hit a pipe that went into his foot arch and exited his thigh.
Lost his leg and almost bled to death.

dallasdb I've jumped from 60 (feet first) in Lake Havasu... had a splitting headache and ringing in my ears for hours. Never again.

My wife was a nurses aide in her early years... she took care of two paraplegics that hit things in the Pueblo Res. It's always spooked me a bit (because prior to that, I was a jumping fool).

I know people... far smarter than Ghostman who make some pretty risky decisions... 80' is so high. He should have known better. That said, not sure even known risk takers deserve to be disrespected for making a mistake after their death.
