If the minnows are creek chubs or similar to them I don't believe you can keep them out of the lake if they are in the water supplying the lake. When they hatch out they are just hair like in size and will go with the flow.

Lake John
We fished Lake John last week and I was amazed all fish I cleaned were packed full of minnows and none had any scuds in them at all. The meat was less orange as a result and did not taste as good. Anyone know why after they killed this lake off back in 2008 or 2009 and supposedly had the gravel filter on the inlet to not allow minnows in, why are there so many frickin minnows in this lake now?
