Re: Laker Rods Found!

I went by High Country Bass Pro and picked up one of those rods today.* There's only one rod left if anyone wants one.

I've been buying jig heads and plastics from those guys for many years.* Good place.

Thanks Don for the tip.

High country bass on sheridan and morrison road is a good place. I buy a lot of my plastics there 'cause they sell them separately for cheap. No need to buy a $6 bag just to try. Plus they are the only place I've found to get the 11-mile special smoke/gray color.

I got mine Friday night. I agree with you on the guides, I would like bigger diameter, especially on the tip, but I have looked hard all over for 2 winters and was only able to find 1 rod with big guides, and it had a spinning handle. So these at High Country at least have the right handle and enough backbone to get the job done.

Don, I looked at those on Saturday. I almost bought one to replace one rod of mine that is a little too light. The only thing I didn't like about them was the guide diameter was too small - they will ice up pretty quick. I like the big wire guides, a quick tap with something kind of hard and the ice comes out. I'm still thinking about it though, maybe I better think quick - they only had 3 or 4.

Yes, Dan, they carry live bait, including minnows, and they had waterdogs, too.

Don, I used to go ther quite often. They are good with people and often cut some pretty good deals. Do they still carry live bait? Any Dogs?

Laker Rods Found!

For you lake trout fishermen, I found some decent inexpensive lake trout rods last weekend at High Country Bass Pro on south Sheridan. They are graphite, 42", with baitcast handles and are $19.95. They are made by a local guy and I think the quality is pretty good.

For some reason, ice rods in that length with the baitcast handle are hard to find. At least ones with enough power to handle a bigger lake trout.

High Country has also taken over the reel repair business that Uncle Milty used to do. It's a nice shop. Hope they can survive the influx of big boxes.
