I almost went fishing there before...decided to get a guide to take me on the big lake though and catch salmon...Most michiganders are criminals, plain and simple. It's something I learned about them from living up there for 2 years.

who are you to make that kind of generalization?
exactly where did you live for 2 years to gives you the perspective to say that?

that has to be one of the most stupid statements ever made.

My whole family on the in-law side is from Michigan...............not criminals at all. Neither are the people I've met up there. ??? :-X :-X :-X :-\

The whole walleye theft issue doesn't surprise me. The territories between Michigan the Indian tribes up there are vast.............and the rules are different between the two. It would be easy to slip in and steal fish..............especially ones that make runs..................walleye, trout, and salmon. I'm glad they got caught............hopefully they catch the rest of 'em. :-X

Flint and detroit, two of the three worst cities in the US. I admitted it was a generalization and definitely not all are criminals...but if you guys lived there, you would be singing a different tune I'm sure. I was at mott lake in flint once fishing off this popular spot with a lot of other people and a guy pulled up in a cadillac with a gun and was threatening people. Rather than calling the cops, about 6 of the people fishing in this spot pulled guns out of concealed areas. People also were smoking crack and marijuana at the fishing spots, and drinking alcohol (when alcohol is illegal in that park) and I highly doubt anybody had fishing licenses or concealed weapon carry permits. Granted, it may have been where I was in that state that left a bad taste in my mouth about many of the people.

Don, I don't see how my generalization about crime activity in places that are at the top of the US in crime activity relates to my scientific arguements/interpretation of the Upper Colorado River Endangered Fish Recovery Program.

Obviously not all michiganders are criminals. I'm sorry if that offends people, because there are a few areas in that state that are very nice and I have a few very good friends who are natives.

The Michigan DNR is fantastic and really knows its waters IMO 1000x better than the CDOW does, and has appropriate laws for appropriate places.

However in the areas I was in (Flint and Detroit), it is safe to say a majority were criminals. If anybody cares to dispute that, come on a walleye trip with me. We may catch a lot of walleye, but we also may get mugged.

ok so your comparing an area of say 200 square miles to say that an area of say 20000 square miles so now your an expert on Mi. sure those are bad areas but look at the demographics. Union towns are always the biggest stink holes around and people act like they live.

IMO

Dude! Flint and Detroit!! You have to go North and get to know some Yoopers eh! Some of the best people i've ever known. A Yooper will go out of there way to help anyone, especially if that person might have a spare beer they could offer! I grew up in Northern Michigan and I can tell ya this eh, Flint and Detroit are a whole different state then the one I grew up in!
It doesnt suprise me though that the "Tribal Police" are involved.

GO WINGS, EH!

This is the U.P, not Detroit. Big, and and I mean a really big difference. And, These were tribal memebers, not your local motor city crack heads. What's puzzling is that the Bay should be iced over this time of year and to use nets under the ice is no easy task and should have been easily spotted by casual ice fishermen.

TFB, you've lived a sheltered life. You need to come out to the Front Range and do some fishing out here. You'd see the very same thing if you went out to Jim Baker Reservoir out off of 64th and Lowell on any given Friday or Saturday night in July. Great catfish and bass lake.

not to agree with TFB, but comparing how hood and gangster denver is to Detroit is like comparing horsepower of a ford mustang to one of those micro machine cars that go when you push them back.

That's the awesome thing about living in Denver that the lot of ya take for granted,.. the fact that because Denver is a crossroads city next to alot of tourism and has alot of industry and education, there's no real lower class enclaves or "bad hoods". and this is true especially if you have never been anywhere else but Denver.

I'm sure every one of you who are from California, the south or out east in new england will concur with this.

TFB I bet you got instant respect from the thugs at the fishing hot spot in Flint with the story of the 12" Gill you caught ;D ;D ;D
The gill was 12.5".

Actually most of them did respect me fairly quickly because of the amount of walleyes, bass and pike I caught. That and the fact I didn't act I was better than them. The only time I almost got in a fight up there on the lake was when a boat guy (who was a rich old white guy) was crowding me out of my spot ON SHORE because I kept nailing walleye and he wasn't. He said I was fishin like a ni**er.

For all of you that are bashing me because of my opinion on that area, F U. You live in the places I did and have a positive opinion of it. Pretty tough to do considering I was once robbed at 2AM with a knife to my throat for 11 DOLLARS when I was catfishing below belleville lake dam, in CANTON, MI, no less, not Detroit.

I think you forgot a comma............."That and the fact I didn't act, I was better than them." :)

should've been "that, and the fact that I didn't act like I was better than them." or something to read that effect...but I gotcha...I think had I called popo on the illegal activities I would've been shot before I left.

you are fighting a losing battle here, brother.
ha. I quit fighting. I think people understand that I don't think all of michigan is full of criminals but mostly the areas where I lived. I was trying to make a joke but it was definitely in poor taste.
