Re: Any word on jefferson, safe Ice?

i personally have been waiting for jefferson to freeze my self but knowing that both of the closer lakes like tarryall and antero have not frozen over, the odd are that Jefferson lake will at lease need another month or two before that deep water can freeze over and have a good solid lid. My older brother introduce me to jefferson and he has been fishin that lake for over 4 year and hes has always been right on the timing, As of right now it about a month or two before a good freeze at jefferson lake. But even if you did fish the southeast side the odds are that the ice will crack and split and thing may go bad and knowing you hike in the odds of get help are slim to none. Just be safe if you do decided to ice fish that lake at this time of early ice.

I don't think so. I would be shocked if it has a fishable lid by next weekend.

Just use common sense...no fish is worth taking a bath for or dieing for...I am tempted tonight...I just talked to Jeremy...he just stuck and 8 pounder...it took me 2 hours to get out of the Pepsi Center parking lot and get home...it is really slick...and then to make matters worse...my 7 inch new stickbaits arrived priority mail...and they are broad bodies...they are going to push some water...striper wake baits...they are screaming CAST ME!...CAST ME!!...CAST ME!!!...I shut the door to this room and I can still hear them...ugh...this sucks...fricking bs snow...

Someone posted last year that they were up there and watched as the wind came up and busted six inches of ice in front of them. Wait a while.

Re: Any word on jefferson, safe Ice?

I spent most of the week driving back and forth to South Park.

Here's what I seen with my own two eyeballs.....

1) Antero was open water
2) Elevenmile was open water
3) Spinney was open water
4) Tarryall had skim ice on it in certain areas on some mornings....but it was mostly open water
5) Fairplay Beach had a coating of ice on it but it didn't look too safe to me.

I'm willing to bet Jefferson is in the same condition as Fairplay Beach. Weather was in the high 50's for most of the week and the wind came up pretty harsh yesterday.

I'd count on at least another two weeks....provided it stays cold.

...and Z - that was one of the funniest things I've read on this forum in a long time.

After this wicked cold snap, it will be safe.

That is a far cry from a safe lid...and if you have to walk any distance into there...you better take some extra clothes or they will find you frozen to your laker rod like Hatchet Jack in Jeremiah Johnson movie with the following note on your frozen body...

I, Catfish Goon, being of semi sound mind and frozen short pant legs, do leaveth my Bernie Rod to the next thing who finds it, Lord hope he be a laker guy. It is a good fishin rod, and kilt the 12 inch laker that kilt me. Anyway, I am dead. Sincerley, Catfish Goon.

Brilliant !
