Need Help Catching Gizzard Shad For Catfish Bait... Sabiki Rigs?

I need some catfish bait and fresh cut shad is one of my favorite baits for sure. Realy oily and stinky stuff, catfish love it.
I was wondering if anybody had any tips on catching them on hook and line? I've been told that sabiki rigs work. From what I understand (not much) they are like a string of tiny jigs in a row that are dragged along the bottom?
I rarely hear of anyone catching shad on purpose, and I feel kind of wierd trying it, but they are a very good bait. Thanks for any help.

Heads up, Sabiki rigs are NOT legal in Colorado due to restrictions on the number of hooks you can have on one line.

I guess you could build a three hook version (or mutilate an existing rig) but it sorta defeats the purpose.

Get a cast net my friend.

Dont let Dickwrangler witness any snagging of shad and keeping em,he"ll call OGT on you.He went out of his way to get the Jackson ranger in trouble cause people were snagging(mostly accidental)shad and keeping them.Ranger didn"t see the problem with thinning out some overpopulated shad, but of course wrangler is a by the book guy, expecially when it comes to culling.
