Any of you heading up to the Pike tournament at 11-mile on September 10th? I'm gettin all jazzed up about it! It sounds like a few people have been taking some nice fish lately. Hopefull the weather will be stable around that time and the Pike will be on the feed bag. I'd like to meet those on the forum who will be there.

Wow, What a smart way to get people to kill the pike. Hold a tournament and that will get the fish out of there. Sounds like the only winner will be the DOW and the trout.

IMO

yea but what if this generates enough comotion and revenue that they realize that pike are a desired species this can go both ways and even if it is to get rid of them than you have solid evidence to use in a proposal for pike waters

They do it at Taylor Reservoir too and its nothing more than a way for the CDOW to look good when they are destroying our pike.
What do they do with the pike after the tourney?

Hey guys, they have been having pike tournaments up there for years! Most teams barely catch anything anyway. There are tons of Pike in both 11-Mile and Spinney. I bet more Pike are accidently caught up there by trout fisherman than people actually targeting them?

You are right Neal. Pike are A LOT smarter and less aggressive than trout. You will catch some on spinnerbaits and the usual up there, but the best lures are more subtle presentations.
At Taylor anyway, they weigh in the pike and contribute them to the fish fry. Very sneaky.

That would be good, but I think our pike are under so much attack now, that populations need to be replenished before allowing any tournaments.

Eleven Mile wind...a long day of hard fishing...a beverage or two...and some deep fried pike with someone else cooking it up?...where do I sign up?...

They havent gotten rid of the pike there in 40 years...they never will...too large of lake...too many spawning areas...coupled with fisherman not smart enough to catch them (me included!)...they are in no danger at Eleven Mile...

for a starting point that might be a good start pushing for a state wide rule requireing all tournys to be "no kill" you might get a lot of support from many different disiplines. then later when people see pike being release at a tourny it could instill that thought in more people kinda a sneaky back door thing

I like how they make it sound like they are giving a boat away no matter what when you glance at the flyer. Then you look close and it says there will be a predetermined weigh in number that you have to match down to the .00 ounce. I don't think anyones going to win a boat lol.

Isn't that what the extra fishing weights in the tackle box is for?

The DOW has nothing to do with this tournament. 11-Mile Sports are the promotors. It is a kill tournament, but you would be amazed at how many smaller or undersized pike are brought to weigh in with only a few trophy class fish being weighed in. If anything it weeds out some of the smaller pike and alows more room and less competition for the larger fish. The percentage of pike weighed in is, in my opinion, a very small percentage of the entire lake's population. I would like to know how many new pike are created each year through reproduction with one female pike laying millions of eggs each. It is not the objective to kill as many pike as possible and most of us are are for selective harvest or strictly C&R outside of these tournaments. I wish it were a no kill tourney as well! An entire pike population can not be devistated by a one day pike tournament and yes most boats come to weigh in empty handed.

I guess no one here is going, everyone just wants to complain about it without knowing the true impacts.
