Tuff is the key word in that sentance! That's what keeps it interesting, that is most unpredictable lake I know. She gives it up in a big way every in a while...making the wait worth while.

Hit it last Saturday when it didn't get above 0. I think the fish got lock jaw because we saw several cruising but no one interested in what we had to offer. Hopefully they'll be ready to feast this weekend.

tip on the Mile...move to a whole different area of that lake! Most of you guys are prolly fishing Cross Creek...tent city! That area gets pounded from ice on till now and the fish have seen everything in the business dropped on them. Move to an area that has clean ice that nobody else has been and go after the fish that haven't been traumatized! Don't be timid to hike a bit, find 15'-30' depth and try different baits than you were using before! Move, move and move again to find the hungry ones!

Yea go bust your balls walking all over the lake hoping to find some slimers. 10-15 years ago I would have walked from dam to inlet hoping for trout. Now I walk maybe 100 yds for 8" perch
Or drive to King Soopers and buy some fresh trout. Probably cheaper considering the investment in time, gas and gear to ice fish. But, its something to do until spring comes back.

The big girls are still in there and quite a few...just move around and find them! I still think that last drought changed that lake completely and the big fish have moved away from their old territory and stayed in their new area! Think rocks!!! or go to Kings!

11-Mile is a love/hate relationship. If it was always easy there wouldn't be many fish left. Getting skunked once in a while is what makes it a challenge. Besides how many bobos can one man eat before they start to lose their appeal?

Even Slayer changes up once in a while...

Fresh meat from a grocery store

Gotta move around and find hungry fish, Toni knows. I never fish around the "hot spots" were the crowds are at the Mile. Funk Dat!

Never fished in the crowds at the Mile always walked to find a little quite.. 90% of the people fish 10% of the lake. Always cracked me up but hardly anyone makes a right turn out of suckers cove, even this year we had the mouth of suckers cove all the way to Lazy Boy to ourselves and there where 50-100 peeps from suckers to CC. Also for what ever reason but once you get maybe 200-300 yds out from suckers and CC its almost barren of anglers. Good luck to the 11 Mile hardcore Guys this weekend.

I never put the money reasoning on something I love to do. Heck if I had to financially justify everything I did I would end up sitting at home doing nothing. Pops always said have a good time because you can't take it with you.

X2. It's not about that with me for sure. Fishing is a passion. It's about the thrill of the chase and the constant adrenaline rush of never knowing when the next monster will smash your line. It's about spending time learning and the hours of sitting without getting that one that keep me going back. I don't eat many fish and haven't eaten a trout in the last twenty years. But, I still fish for them and all species because of the above reasons.

As for getting skunked; its the same for me during ice season as it is during open water. It's an opportunity to pursue my passion. It's a learning experience and more opportunity to catch a possible fish of a lifetime. It happens to the best anglers at times. But it never stops me from going again.

You'll never hear me say (or type) "this lake or that lake sucks".

Ice fishing; just like any other fishing is still fishing. If catching was easy everyone would be doing it.

yeah when i fish the mile i never fish by other people. the further away the better. then go a little further. also the folks that get skunked all the time makes me think they dont use spring bobbers. they could be getting bites and not have a clue... also i wont fish the mile unless i know im near weeds. even bought an aqua vu to look in the hole before setting the tent up etc. i fished one day where there were no weeds and didnt even see a fish... never doing that again. that was the only skunk trip i ever had ice mile. ~knocks on wood for next trip out~
