I got up early this morning and set out to do some fishing at one of our state's fine lakes. When I arrived, most of the lake was capped or at least a good portion of it but the ice wasn't satisfactory. So, I had to find a spot to cast but unfortunately all of the sections that I would consider prime had ice. I did some exploring, found some open water and tied on my kasty. I worked it for quite a while and only got one fish. I tried some other stuff, too, but to no avail. Like I've mentioned before, I usually c and r. I typically feel pretty good about the shape of the fish that I release after hook removal but unfortunately this brownie took the kastys treble fairly deep and I didn't feel comfortable releasing it to possibly die so I kept it. I was bummed because i love brown trout but this stuff tends to happen from time to time. Definitely not an ideal day but a day of fishing pretty much beats anything else in my book regardless of what I catch.
