Hey Everyone, I'm proud to present my 13 inch rainbow Deceiver. This fly was tied on a 14/0 hook that I found from a deep sea shark fishing website. This was a very fun yet challenging project to complete. I have tied some very large deceiver patterns on 4/0 hooks for pike, but this was insane! I tried to capture as much shimmer as I could through the use of rainbow colored crystal flash. I dotted the body of the fly with black and red markers. As an added effect, I tied in a san juan worm in the epoxied head to resemble the fly this rainbow supposedly took.
Through the process, I went through two packs of super hair, one bucktail, half a bundle of saddle hackle and an entire bag of peacock hurl. Oh, and did I forget to mention, I used an entire spool of white 3/0 thread!
My partner for the assignment was my good friend Tina Harrington. I definetly needed a girl to help me on this one! She happens to be a pretty good wood burner and knows how to stain wood with the best of them. She was a great help in creating the stand on which the fly sits. We stuck the hook point into a peace of Aspen Branch I found laying around. All and all, I couldn't be more pleased with the way we worked together to complete this project!
As part of my art class assignment, Tina and I had to find a way to reach an audience. I saw no better audience to reach then my fellow fisherman all the way back home in Colorado. Please post your feedback and opinions of our project as it will greatly help in our evaluation process. Thanks again for all your support!
