Another great spot is Cass Lake @ 20 miles East of Bemidji on US 2.... Or a little further South on Leech Lake.... Both great "cottage resort" spots, fishing is generally great late May-early June! Cass has many large Muskies as well as some pretty good Eye action, and of course, Pike at all times.....

Byron,

Don`t overlook the Park Rapids area of N. central Minnesota. It`s due east of Fargo about 2hrs drive. We fish the Crow Wing chain........ lots of good cabins.

We used to stay at Huddles Resort on Leech Lake in Walker, Mn. I think it's owned by the third generation of Huddles. They focused on making sure that the kids had a blast while they were there. We broke one of the bikes on a Sunday morning and the owner started calling around town and getting people out of bed to help us. It's just down the road from Reed's Sporting goods too.
I can't recommend this place enough(although I haven't been there in 8 or 9 years.
