And it wasn't even a monster:

Whoever said walleyes don't fight didn't know chit about walleyes! :p I should mention the rod was broken while fighting the fish and it broke almost at the middle!

For those of you who might not know him, that is Ralpert in the picture. Pretty cool dude with enough of a curious mind to visit a crappy country like Laos. That's my birth place. I mean, what decent American in his right mind would want to visit a bunch peasants in the jungles of Southeast Asia? To ensure that this particular walleye would never break another rod again, he took it home with him. That ought to teach it a lesson...

Anyhoo, that ruined his night and he left early. I stayed and caught 6; missed one. I took a few home to teach them not to break rods in the future. :D

All fish were caught on cheap lures: Rapala Husky Jerks.

Rod may have just had a nick in it for many different reasons.Rocks, truck bed, bouncing against other rods and so on.Thats why it is always good to give it a stress test each time before you go out.Just grab the end of the line and put a good bend in the rod and also set the drag at the same time.Anyway nice job.

Nice work. Ralpert, how is the kids fishing program going?
The program is moving along. I have some great pics I need to post. We have been focusing on the fundamentals. We have been practicing at recess, casting at targets on the playground, things like what to do once you get a fish on your line, how reels work, and not being an annoyance to other people fishing. We are hoping to get out on the water the second week of April. I am looking for some spools of line if anyone has any extra. 6-8lb would be awesome. They have worked over all the line that came on the donated reels and it should be replaced before we actually catch a fish. Thanks again to all those who donated. The kids are super excited. The girls have been far more interested in learning than the boys.

That Rod was most likely weakened in the spot it broke at in transport or mishandling like Koldkut said.
The rod was brand new, it broke right above the first guide. The fish bit and it snapped, had to wind it in with half a rod, the broken end slid down the line. I have broken many a rod, but it is usually due to carelessness, like closing a car door.

Come on, guys! Walleyes break rods. They do it all the time. They are much, much stronger than wipahs. You gotta believe it! Go with me and I’ll show you. I bet a walleye is gonna break your rod. $1,000 on the line. You put in $999; I put in $1. Winner takes all. It’s a fair wager. ;D Seriously, you guys are no fun. Getting all technical, brainy and chit about it. You all sound like Gary Loomis or something. I thought I was a nerd… :D But yeah: new rod and it broke in an unusual place => manufacturing defect.

Nice fish Linh! See you don't need a 50 grands boat to catch those fish that people envy about. Now if those walleyes still have not learn not to break rods, send them to me; I will teach them good.
They learned their lessons pretty good! ;) And, yes, I don't need a fancy boat to catch fish. BUT, there are instances where I know the fish are just a little too far or a little too deep to reach from shore. It's also a dick measuring contest... Slayer looks down wayyy too much on my pedestrian habits. :p:D

Very cool.. I have been to Laos.. and the easy answer to your question is... THE FOOD!!!!
Cool! I have came across very few Americans who have been to Laos (pretty sure I can count them with the fingers on one hand). Just not glamorous and too far off the beaten path. I mean, come on, we all know the brothels are just next door in Thailand? :biggrin1: Why go any further? I have never been back myself...
