A hook is counted by the shank, not point and barb. So a rogue has 2 or 3 hooks.

You can have as many spinners/spoons on the rig as you want... But only 3 hook shanks. Those shanks can have multiple hooks and barbs, but only 3 shanks.

We have the same 3 hook rule here in Tennessee. When the rig first started to hit it big everyone was running 5 or more wires with two dummy baits. well you would lose fish because sometimes they would hit the dummy. So a little custom tackle company in Soddy Daisy, TN. started making these real nice three wire rigs and that's when they started to catch these HUGE 40lb+ 5 fish sacks. on Chickamauga lake. Trust me its the best 3 hook rig you can find! Its a three wire u-rig with three spinners on the wires. They also custom hand pour their own special swim baits to go on them... Don't believe me click this...

each lure on your rig can have three trebles on it and you can have three lures on one line. if you are trolling with a second rod you can have three lures on that rod as well. or a total of 18 hooks in the water at the same time
