What kind of salmon and when are you going. Some flies/lures work year around, others work really good at certain times of the year. Like the dead flesh pattern for rainbows. Yes,,, "dead flesh", it resembles the dead rotten meat of decaying salmon and the big rainbows love it.

Yeah, the good ol' Flesh Fly. Egg sucking leeches in black & purple, wooley boogers, and lots of others.

What species of salmon will be in the river when you're there? That dictates which patterns you'll want for salmon.

Places I have fished I have taken grayling on standard caddis patterns, Royal Wulffs, Adams, stimulators, and others. I love fishing deer hair mice for rainbows. What fun when the fish makes a huge wake across the stream then blows up on it! Standard muddlers, marabou muddlers, and bunny leeches for rainbows, too.

to add, grayling will hit anything on the surface, when nymphing for bows, just tie a hook to your indicator, you'll always have something on.
