An answer to Oprey's question..Cold Air..Warm Water

Well, it's sure been cold out for the end of July...30 degrees below normal temps yesterday. Was kinda tired of the weather, so I hopped in the truck last night and headed south. An hour or so later, I was fishing. I had continuous action until I left the lake..ended up catching 12 cats...the largest was nine to ten pounds. I kept four eaters for dinner. I hadn't been night fishing in quite a while and truly enjoyed it..Water was definitely much warmer than the air temp. All cats caught on chicken livers or shrimp, 20 feet out in 5 to 6 foot of water..Eagle Claw hooks..no weight.

Right on Dave, good job!!! Were you using circle hooks or our Kahle 141 hooks?

Just the regular snelled hooks off the rack. I never use circle hooks. If you can't set the hook, you may as well be trolling.:biggrin1:

As you know Tony. Those Eagle Claws catch fish all by themselves. I only add bait as a confidence factor.

You really got those cats dialed in!!
Nice kitty catches, sir!
I'm off to try for some cats in a few hours. Heard a rumor about a lake that I gotta go and check out. Chicken liver, cut bait and worms are on the menu for toaday.
Beautiful cats Hobie. Very clean looking. And I agree... There is something magical about night fishing.

Thanks. I love catching cats. Before I ever got a boat..and now my toon, I spent a lot of time cat fishing from shore.. Just a cool predator..and they taste good too.

Thanks Owen. My suggestion to you. If you aren't getting bit regularly..find another lake. If they're around in the lake you're fishing, they'll find your bait. And when casting this time of year..hit that same spot over and over. No sense making them swim around from spot to spot looking for your bait. If you're in a spot with a significant number of cats, the scent will bring them to you. Now in the spring, that's a different story. I move a lot that time of year.

Really, I'm being serious here. It's the hooks..(Psst..Tony, how long until those free samples come in the mail?)
I've exhausted all the local lakes. Apparently there aren't any catfish in this county. I've tried everything except noodling. :)
Oh...and Tony. Those EAGLE CLAW hooks I was using were size one.
LMAO!!! Snelled baitholders with slices? :D

Yeah, that's them. Not size 2 EAGLE CLAW ..or size 4 EAGLE CLAW..and definitely not a size 6 EAGLE CLAW.. but size 1 EAGLE CLAW. Shoot they almost tie themselves on the line.
LOL...you should write jingles!!! ;)
