Today's the day.... I wonder how much of a zoo it is out there.

Can't wait to see a report. That lake was one of my favorite places to fish before they drained it.

Antero grows trout fast and fat...... >:D

"DOW began restocking the reservoir last fall and continued the operation after ice-out. An April netting survey revealed a mixed population of trout: rainbow, cuttbow, brown, brook and splake. Rainbow and cuttbow account for about 90 percent of the sample, with half of those 14 inches or larger. A few trophy-size specimens up to 25 inches were captured. Brown trout represent 8 percent of the sample."

The new only 1 fish can be over 16" rule kinda sucks there. A lot of gas $$ to drive up there for that, they may as well make it more like spinney if they are going that direction. I wonder how many fish will end up dying from being deep hooked from bait fishermen trying to throw them back

And if I had my way about it, it would be fly and lure only. That place is an awesome fishery.
It doesnt need to be with Spinney just down the road.

In the past, the DOW has done an excellent job at Antero managing the fishery, and with the new channel that's been added, now the lake has the best of both worlds for bait fisherman as well as fly and lure only guys.  It's nice to see it come back on line.  Here's an additonal link that repeats some of the info already provided by milehighfishing.  Hey, it will give you something to read and watch the video while you're waiting for the reports to come in. ;D Click on the video with the pic of the canal.

agreed. it had 4 fish of all size in the past. the restriction can only help. it is extremely selfish to want to have all the good fisheries for yourself...very selfish...

it needs to be fly and lure only with those restrictions, and if i was in charge id make it catch and release for one year to let the fish get a little bit  bigger to get it like it was before

it was such a good lake there was o need to drain it :-[ :'(

i't has been closed for how many years, and they changed the reg's to just keeping one good fish and on opening day people still got busted for breaking those rules. i just don't get some people.do they just figure that the rule are for everyone else?? i think that they should be more strict on fishing violations, like you would lose your license and fishing privleges for periods of time, maybe then people would be more apt to follow the rules and not think twice about breaking them.

jamie, I agree with you 100% but I don't think that it would help much. If those people are going to break the rules then they would just keep fishing without a license. Until the DOW spends more money on enforcement instead of the variety of pet projects that help no-one but their resume it will stay the same.

I am starting to see the positives of tougher regs. i.e. aurora reservior, with pushing the legal size from 15 to 18 i think the walleye fishery has improved. What do you think?

btw.....is the line at antero bcuz only a limited number of people can enter or is the long line an issue first thing in the morning?

It's not that we believe it should be flies and lures only to have the lake to ourselves. Take power bait for example. It is fished mostly on trebble hooks and the fish usually swallow it. Do you think that after someone catches their monster fish (The one they can keep) that they are going to quit fishing with their trebble hooks? No! They are going to keep catching big ones, and throw them back after they dug out a swallowed hook because they can't keep it. Then that fish will more then likely die. Fish wasted! That's the only reason. ;)

I see it like this: Almost all other water source reservoirs are fly and lure only, why is this one the exception? Also, the treble hook thing holds very true that fish will gill hook themselves and then the fishermen throws it back.

I see it like this:  Almost all other water source reservoirs are fly and lure only, why is this one the exception?  11 Mile Res. isn't .    Don't the people that use that power bait play dough stuff use a small treble hook with a spring on it ?  Would not that play dough stuff hold on a single hook with a spring on it ?  I think that would increase the fish survival rate.  Eagle Claw and others make a new style hook and make lots of money, DOW outlaws trebles for bait fishing, lots of fish live long and healthy lives.  Simple ain't it ?  ::)

Excellent post man! Id like to see more bait fisherman using circle hooks as well.

IMO
