Fished all over chatfield today.. With it being my first time on the lake, i didnt really know where to fish so I started out by the Dam trolling for trout, I could see them suspended around 10' and a few on bottom but couldnt get anything to bite. I also tried jigging the rip rap for walleye and trolling a worm harness. Saw alot of boats out there but didnt see ANYONE land a fish. I cant believe i stayed in the cold for that lol. :-\

Hate to do this to you guys, but 5 walleye 18 1/2" to 22 3/4", all of them male, very fat, and every one of them released. I was only out about 4 hours, and on the last bit of the full moon phase.

Weather was double cold, or so it seemed. Water temp varied but averaged about 40 to 41. I was working areas that provided slightly warmer water temps along with the right combo of structure/bottom composition and depth.

I won't say much more. Not trying to be a creep, just asking anglers to put on thier thinking caps.

They are at Chatfield, and biting. You just have to give them what they are looking for.

I re-read my post, and it sounds a bit smug. My apologies!

I should readily admit that I have spent more than a few hours getting skunked at Chatfield, but hope I am starting to understand the lake better. These 'eyes were so fat and healthy that I am very optimistic about the fishing this year. The fish had the look and feel of fish that have just emerged from the deep dark holes.

I miss fishing as much as I used to, but look forward to seeing some of you guys out there this season. The EyeGuy might have to start fishing again.

No need to apologize.  It is good enough to let us know that you found them.  Makes us all a little more optimistic.  I get more satisfaction out of figuring out the bite myself rather than having someone spray paint an X on the spot for me.

Maybe the DOW should put wiper in there so they will eat those sucky shad! Does everyone remember cherry creek a few years back when the shad came?

it didn't seem to help a bunch at the creek as the shad are still pretty thick there too. though the wipers and walleyes are getting bigger.
