Fly fished the Arkansas today started out about 6am at Salt Lick area (past the South entrance to the Royal Gorge coming from Canon City). Caught a nice looking 16" Brown on a elkhair caddis around 6:45 ish water temp was 42-43 degrees. Move up the road about 10 miles are so when we say a nice little hole that we (Father-in-law, Cody (son), and me) could help Cody out fly fishing as it was his 3rd time trying. Cody caught the fist one also on an Elkhair Caddis. A little rainbow 8" or so his first fish on the fly rod. Then between the 3 of us we probably caught 6 more little rainbows and browns from 6" - 8" nothing big. They were hitting the Elkhair caddis on top or caddis pupa on bottom. We packed it up at 11:30 had to go get the women folk at the Apple Blossom Festival.
Didn't see any caddis hatch going on where we were, it was pretty windy and a little to cloudy most of the time we were there. Thats 2 yrs in a row now I tried to fish the Mother's Day Caddis hatch and haven't found it.
