Went back to Aurora...really should have gotten some sleep...two mornings in a row a 4:00 am...and I cant function without sticking my head under the shower for 20 minutes since I dont like coffee...among other things...stopped and bought some 3 o 4 inch shiners from Valley Country bait store and off to the lake...I got to reservoir at about 6:30...it started as a disaster...my new Cabelas 9ft Zander rod...snapped in half on it's first cast...fortunately I had two other rods with me...it got better in a hurry...my friend Dennis from Greeley showed up and when I wasnt looking a wiper took off with my bait...the wind was howling so I didnt hear it tip over and head for the lake...well I have learned to set the drag as loose as possible...by the time I noticed he had half the spool and was swimming for the middle of the lake which was about a 150 yards of four pound line...it took me a bit to get him turned...I netted him and measured him...26.5 inches...he weighed 10.5 pounds on Dennis's digital scale...he got released...I managed to catch 3 more, 2 were 26 inches and one 24...I only broke off two...and messed up half a dozen hits...the wind was on again off again hurricane strength...Dennis broke off four fish before he got one late in the day that was just about 27 inches...we left around 5pm...we should of caught more but it was steady all day....I am pretty tired and starting to ramble...all were caught on leeches...all fish were released...this kind of reminds me of the fishing for bass on their beds quandry that has been discussed around here...they are there cruising the dam...sometimes only a few feet away...thinking they are spawning even though they are sterile...only thing is they dont spawn so they arent a renewable resource unless the DOW stocks more...so if you happen to catch a bunch try to put a few back...so they dont go the way of the dinosaur...and good luck and hold on...it is the closest thing I have fished for that reminds me of tieing your line to a speeding car bumper...

I am headed over there in about an hour to give it a try again.

Last Monday i had to sit there and watch about a 100 wipers slaughter Spottail Shiners all morning! Maybe I am do!

A 10lb Wiper on 4lb test is no easy task!
