When we were there last week there were quite a few rangers. They seemed to check us and minded there own business. He was pretty proffesional. I think it is OK if they check everybody routinely, but not focusing on a minority group or just people from out of town.
I really like there rules and regulations, and that is why they do have a nice fishery. But I've fished BIG MAC since March and that was the first time I've been checked all year. I think they focus on the Wiper fishermen because last year they had quite a few problems with people from Colorado violating the 18" regulation. It's too bad that a few people's poor decisions reflect everybody else's image and how they treat some of us.
Anyways, enough of that. Let's talk about fishing. We were there last week and even with the bad weather, did manage to catch quite a few fish. We caught 20 plus white bass, 4 wipers, and 4 walleyes. The rain really slowed the fishing down because the ranger told us that between 30-40 boats that he checked that only 15 walleyes were reported.
As all this clears the fishing will get better. Especially for the Wipers. Good luck to all that plan to go there.
