Last year, I caught a 23-inch, 7 pounder from the Rocky Mtn Arsenal (below). A few years ago I pulled 21-inch, 5.5 pound smallmouth from Quincy (before that I didn't even know there were smallies in Quincy).

19 incher from a private pond here in Greeley.  Here's something I've always wondered.  Does everyone out there weight their fish with a scale, or do most of you guys guess-t-mate. I'm not trying to be a smart*** or anything, but most reports all deal with weights.  I've never had a scale, so I measure everything by inches. Is there a conversion factor for different species to convert their lenght to weight?  I guess I've always been abit surprised that most people give the weights of their fish, rather than the length.

Johnny-

Here is one among many: http://www.lonestaranglers.com/fish_weight_estimator.cfm

I have one of those fish scales in my boat and in my experience the digital ones work great, but they ain't cheap -- about $40-60.

Hope this helps.

Johnny I have a hand scale but usually measure them...I can usually come pretty close on weights with trout, wipers, and walleyes. The fish I usually fish for.

Here are some links to length and weights by fish...

Trout

Walleyes and Northern Pike

Striped Bass

A bunch of different ones in the same chart!!!!

I hope that helps!

Thanks guys, Work2fish, I think I met you last winter @ 11 mile. You were with a group of guys off rocking chair, and I was busy drilling a few holes for an old timer. Didn't catch alot that day, but I sure do love ice fishing!!!!

Johnny,

I don't think I've had the pleasure as that probably wasn't me. I haven't done any ice fishing at elevenmile though that would be a kick! I am planning to go to the CF get together, so if you are going to be there as well I will look forward to meeting you.

Regards,
Mike
