I know he's not big but he is the first bass I ever caught on a spinner bait. I was getting bites from lots of little bass along the dam at the inlet. I landed three. Of corse I didn't bring my box from the car. I think a little jig would have slayed them.
I think a spinnerbait will outfish the jigs for those little rascals if you use the right one. The little Strike King 1/4 oz. spinnerbaits in white color will just hammer the bass at Boyd, and they're not very expensive.
Fine, but get a white one, they really do work better, I've tried both. And go out to the pump house and fish them straight out along the concrete wings, you'll be surprised how many bass hang out there. No kidding.
Most of the time, just reel them straight in. About the only options you have for a spinnerbait, technique-wise, is what speed for the retrieve, and do you let them sink a few seconds before starting the retrieve. The answers will seldom be exactly the same on any two different days, so you have to experiment a little with that when you get to the water.
