I attached a photo of my rod tubes to show how I used the Thule bike rack channels and how the end caps look. As I said earlier, I used the channels with the black plastic pipe but switched to the thin wall EMT conduit because of warping. This photo is also before I added the reel box. At this time, I removed the caps, slid the assembled rod in the tube then used small bunji cords to hold the rod in place. You can't see them but I drilled a 1/4" hole in each tube opposite each other about 12" from the end. I would secure one end of the bunji in one hole then stretch it around the back of the reel at the reel seat then attach to the hole on the other side. This was ok for moving from one place to the next but didn't give me security so I would not leave rods in place when not fishing.
