I have a dead, oily, chunked up carp in my freezer. I do not have any sucker meat, but I am planning a trip to a new spot to get into some lake trout in the next week or so.

I know it's perfectly legal to use dead non-game fish as bait, so that isn't the question...

Q: Has anyone tried to use carp filets for tipping jigs? If so, have you had much success?

I HATE the thought of BUYING sucker meat... ;)

Try it. When I went ice fishing with Bernie at Granby a few years ago we used tube jigs tipped with small strips of carp meat for the smaller fish. For the bigger fish, we used large tube jigs with no meat.

Cool... yea, we are going after smaller ones, fast action. Don't care about the trophy, as it's just me and the boy. I just want him to develop an appreciation for Macs. :)

I kinda wish I had more than one carp stored away, now. ;) maybe I'll try to hit up Sloan's and get another this week.
