I've noticed a couple threads talking about catch and release. When I was helping with the DOW kids fishing tank at the Sportsmans Expo they were using self releasing hooks. These things were pretty kewl on a couple of deep hooked fish, I simply pulled the line and itspun the hook inside the fish and slid right out. I havent picked any up yet but I plan on getting some, it took me a while to find them on the net to show you guys, here is a picture of them and how they work. I dont know if this is the same brand the DOW was using or not. But it was the same style.

that's really cool! circle hooks taken to the next level.

if anybody thinks that circle hooks (the regular kind) don't work as promised, try them! i was AMAZED the first time i tried them. a couple years ago we were striper fishing in the chesapeak, we had taken our two fish limit (we had been deep hooking fish that were really agressive with the live bait we were using) so we switched to circle hooks. we caught just as many fish, no problem hooking them, and not a one deep hooked.

since then i have had similar experiences with them for trout and such in colorado. if deep hooking a fish is not a concern, i still use reguar baitholders, but just becuase they hold bait a little better (i don't throw the bait as much), and baitholder circles are harder to find. i do know that eagle claw makes baitholder circle hooks in a full run of sizes.

sorta went off on a tangent, there, sorry.

I use Owner circle hooks for trout, as they are the only circle hooks I could find under size 1/0.

When ever I Fish bait where it be on the bottom or under a float I always use circle hooks. I dont keep alot of fish so it makes it alot ez'er on the fish. When I first saw a circle hook I though there was no way that thing can catch fish. Man I was wrong. The only problem is that we're all taught to 'set the hook'. With circle hooks all you want to do is sweep your pole to the side as the fish swims away.

IMO
