Well we hit Chatfield around 4pm...the most beautiful fall day you could imagine...we were brimming with optimism (what were we thinking?)...started around the middle of the boundary to the no wake area in the Platte River arm (water temp 55)...fish everywhere...we tried bait/spinners/cranks/spoons...not one hit...off to the swim beach where walleyes will sometimes corral shad up against the shoreline at dark...nothing doing...threw cranks up against the shoreline...back to the marina in front of the tires...occasional fish swirling although we think they were carp...and nothing here either...back to the roadbed...it is turning cold now...Joe forgot his stocking cap and had to resort to paper towls under his cap as ear flaps (move over Omar Sharif in Lawrence of Arabia - pictures at the end)...we tried bait, cranks, spoons...not one hit...fish were on the fish finder...not one hit...we decided to bag it...went back to the south boat ramp...it was calm...we made the last turn to the boat ramp about 50 yards away...shad everywhere...or minnows...playing...jumping out of the water everywhere...like the boxes in the VandeCamp commercial...no swirls...they werent being chased...just jumpin for fun...a bazillion sounds of ploop ploop ploop of little fish jumping and landing...there were NO bigger fish swirling chasing them...we gave up at 9:30...we were pretty cold by then...at least we werent the last boat...there was one other one...we overheard a couple of boats talking (big boats after dark with serious fisherman looking for walleye...they hadnt seen any either...from what I could overhear...we fished hard and not one hit or bite...not a couple of the sharpest knives in the drawer...but we are persistant...

Here are some pictures of Omar...errrrrrrrrrrrrrr Joe...first the "my underwear is frozen to my body" shot...

Next is the sexy sultry gotta find a woman who fishes look...or his eyelids are frozen...like Audrey in Christmas Vacation...

Well we fished hard and still found the skunk on an ideal evening...it was fun...and Joe was a good sport...posing for the camera...

Sound like my trip out last Saturday, fish everwhere but couldn't coax them to bite. I squeaked away with a couple of small stockers, but really the bite was not on.

They've got to turn on sooner or later, and when they do we'll be ready. I'm digging that middle east look!

Take a 12' pice of fishing line, tie one swivel to one end and a hook to another, put a minnow on the hook and attch it to a jug. Then before you leave throw out the jug. Come back early the next morning, unhook the line from the jug, connect it to your fishing rod, and wind in the fish. Skunk killed!
