Decided to beat the crowds and try and get some quality fishing time in over the Father's Day weekend by getting out Sat night and staying over thru Sunday. Hit the water about 7:00 pm and was able to get into some walleye and smallmouth over in the Massey Draw area fishing the weedline and shore. My wife and I were casting X-Raps, Shad Raps, and jointed Shad Raps. After the boat traffic let the water calm a bit, fished late into the night around the buoy line off the handicapped pier, more walleye, but this time used leeches on a bottom bouncer and plain hook leader. Hit the sleeping bags about midnight on the boat, and went right over to Massey again about 5:30 am. Water was already rippling from a slight breeze, had the same experience as Sat night with walleye and smallmouth. Water skiers were out by 6:30 in that area, so we tried the submerged road with leeches. Saw a couple guys slip bobbering leeches and pulling walleye in regularly, a number of boats were fishing the line and seemed to be doing ok. Couldn't find a good location before the water started getting rough. Moved over to Catfish Flats and spent the day there. The water was great, and the fishing was ok, lots of bass jumping and was able to get some more walleye, again on leeches, one on nightcrawler. Don't know how many fish total caught, but unfortunately, not a single keeper. Almost all were 16"-17", but what a fun day and night! Saw the boat launch line curled out of the parking lot onto the road about noon Sunday, was sure glad I was already out on the water. I'll bet those folks were waiting 2 hours to launch! Got off the water around 9, out of leeches and a storm coming. Heading out to Nebraska in 3 weeks to Merritt Reservoir, will let you guys know how that goes. Good Fishing.

Nice job on Chatty. Your wife must be hard core if she's willing to sleep in the boat.

Have you fished Merritt much? I've heard it will be the next McCaunaghy as far as walleye fishing goes. I've been thinking of making a trip out there sometime. Definitely let us know how you do.

My wife is absolutely the best, she's the one who suggested we stay out again all day on Sunday instead of packing it in at noon like originally planned. And my 13 yr old daughter was with us, too. She enjoyed being out on the boat on Dad's day, didn't even try to fish. Still working on getting that fishing passion going in her.

Never been to Merritt before, talked to a game warden at the sportsman's show who convinced me to give it a try this year. Will be glad to let you know how we do.

Good report! We were out there too that night and did pretty good. Got 2 walleye and a bunch of smallies. We got off the water around 8 and glad we did. The water sport'ers were already out in full force.

Fishbrain,

Where you in the bontoon boat? If you where I was in the older blue lund that pulled into the loading area at the same time. Fished from 7:00 to 11:00pm. Got into a bunch of walleyes with bottm bouncers and Chart harness near the handcap pier. My son got a nice fat 21" walleye around 8:30 before that area turned off. Glad to here you had a fun night. Once it got dark and thinks slowed down my son curled up on the floor and fell right to sleep. Tried pulling some cranks for awhile with no luck.

Campingkids,

I was in a pontoon boat, have 2 fishing chairs ahead of the gated area on the bow along with a trolling motor. I thought Lunds only came in red ?! Glad you had a good night too, what's the secret to 'eyes over 18"? And what's a Chart harness?
