The wife and I put the boat in around 8:30 this morning and took off for the area south of the Swim Beach area....it was somewhere close to the Heron Rookery area and straight out from Catfish Flats. The water depth was round 30 feet. Our fishfinder showed numerous fish in the area and we had the thing set for "large" fish.  We were using nightcrawlers and a couple of split-shot. I caught one desent Rainbow, but it broke my line while trying to land it. At about 10 AM, the tip of one the rods stared to really "bow". I had something! Started reeling it in and as it got close to the top, I told my wife, "We have something pretty nice here". We got it in the boat and it was a 19 inch Brown Trout. My wife took a couple of pics of me with it and I will see if I can get one of them into the Forum.
After that "nice catch" things pretty much died down, so we took off and headed for home.
If we decide to, we are ready to go back to Chatfield tomorrow morning, but we want to get there around 7 AM.

Cowboy,

My buddy and I were in that same area from 5:00a to about 10:30a. I could not believe how many fish were jumping around the boat.

We caught 6 walleyes (16 to 17 inchers) and 3 small mouths. The walleyes seemed to be a lot fatter than the ones off of the rocks. I wish we could have kept them.

The girls came out after that and we tubed until around 4:00pm.

I could not believe how "uncrowded" the lake was for the holiday weekend.

Yes, my wife and I were "totally amazed" at how many fish were showing up on our fishfinder where we were at. I mean, it was like "school" after "school" of fish coming by. Unfortunately, after we got that nice Brown Trout, nothing was biting........but, there was still plenty of fish showing up on the Finder.
Hey John, we were also very surprised how "uncrowded" the lake was for a holiday weekend. In fact, when we went to the Ramp area (by the Dam) to bring in our boat (at 12:15 PM), there was only one boat at the Ramp area waiting to be loaded onto a trailer.

Hey Guys.......

My wife and I want to say "Thanks" for all the nice comments about the Brown Trout I pulled in.
We sure hope we can keep up the "good luck" next Saturday morning when we go back to Chatfield.
Our Hummingbird 565 FishFinder and the map (Fish-n-Map) that I picked up sure does help us. Of course, a Fishfinder and map doesn't do much good if the fish aren't biting.

By the way, we looking forward to seeing everyone at the Get-Together on August 14th.

Cody,

I should be out there as well on Saturday. I have a white Chaperell boat. Stop by and say hey if you are not too busy reeling in all of the fish.

I have heard stories of the Brown Trout Spawning in the Platte in the fall and some hogs (24 inch plus) being caught on yozuri rainbow trout color lures. I even bought one and tried it last year. Did not catch any browns but landed a few fat bows from 14-19 inches. Can anyone validate this story I heard with some pic's or a story or two?
