Got back from Navajo and needed a fix...went out to the spillway and it started bad from the parking lot...getting my stuff together and digging in the front seat of my truck...some yahoo glared at me as he passed by...found what I was looking for...small radio walkman for listening to the Fan sportstalk since I was by myself...well the yahoo backs up and ask why I am taking a picture of his truck...I think he was cruising through sucking down a beer and paranoid...I said it wasnt a camera...its a walkman...you know music sportstalk...you plug headphones into it...mine doesnt have picture capabilities...I expected to come back to slashed tires...well on to the spillway...got there the water was not all the way up the way I like it...I usually fish the west side...well another yahoo has his pole wedged in the rocks with the line running the length of the pool back towards where the water is coming out...meanwhile he is fishing from one of the catwalks probably 200 feet away by the time you run around...can you say unattended pole...of course it is Chatfield where rangers dont ever make the rounds outside of their car...I tried various Rapalas and leeches and no luck...finally the yahoo gave up at dark and left so I thought maybe it was my time...well about this time here comes Swiss Family Flourescent Light family on the catwalks shining bright lights into the water for light sensitive walleyes...they were probably on the bottom screaming turn it off while going into a vampire like transformation of turning to dust in sunlight...it wasnt my night...the moon was full and the people I met acted like it...I got the skunk...there were two regulars on the east side that I did see that managed a walleye a piece while casting plugs...not much of a report...

Technically that is the spillway. Since a spillway is an overflow feature for a dam. Whether there is any fish in that square body of water I don't know, hmmmmm maybe there is?

What a lot of people (me included) are commonly referring to as the spillway at chatfield is actually the outlet or release from the lake. It forms the South Platte River where the water is released.

Make sense?

Ok, where is that?

Same area. Once you drive down there, you'll see the outlet. I'd recommend you make your 1st trip down there in the daytime though. I went my 1st time at 2 in the morning and had heck of a time finding it. All I knew was it is by the square looking pool of water that you see from 470.
