yeah colorado can be tough. It seems many if not most anglers from your area are initially baffled at fishing our waters. It just takes some time. Good luck out there.

The walleye "Ice Breaker" tourney is at Cherry Creek Res this year. Open to amateurs but you must be a member of CWA.

LT - We are all amatures in the CWA.  Dont think that all the guys and gals that fish the CWA are nothing more than that.  If they were pro's, they'd not be fishing our events.  I will admit though that some of the teams are not far from earning a living fishing....but not via the CWA.

Come fish our tourneys...you'll have a blast and learn alot.  PM me if you'd like somemore info/insight.

You'll need a partner but if you cannot find one, come to one of the CWA meetings, they are free and we can help link you up with someone that does not have a boat. Heck, you can likley find a partner here on this site. You will need either a livewell or a cooler with aerated water to keep the fish alive prior to weighin. We will only weigh live fish as we like to return them to the lake after the weigh-in.

With the warm temps, all we need is a little breeze to clear all the ice off.  Maybe I am being too optimistic but last year the ice cleared in  2 days!

I think Thursday it will be open, as long as they drop the cables.

Well..........with days like yesterday (73 degrees) and even a little warmer today, we hate even walking by our boat in the garage.
Even though we do live in Colorado where we do have winter months with snowstorms and ice, it is still hard to have a boat here. Now, if we could just have cold temperatures and some snow most of the time during our winter, we would get that "fever" to get the old boat out on the lake when the temperatures get into the high 60's and lower 70's. It's just not fair to have weather like that during the winter when you own a boat.

P.S. When did they open the boat ramps at Chatfield last year????

Saturday February 12. It was ice free for 3-4 days at that time and did not refreeze.

I'm sticking with the 2 week vote, that puts it open a week from Saturday. We haven't had many thawing nights 2 by my count, and its supposed to freeze pretty hard at night starting again Saturday (20 degrees). Besides who is it that has a new boat bringing new equipment curse to us all, not to mention names or anything, arieldg.

Only problem with Chatfield (or any lake/Reservoir) opening it's boat ramps to early is ICE COLD WATER to contend with when launching/retrieving and fishing. Please don't think of me (and the wife) as "wimps", but that water can be mighty cold this time of year.
And, believe us, were are just as anxious as the rest of you to "get the old boat back on the lake", but our winter isn't over yet.
If Chatfield does open it's boat ramps in 2-3 weeks, we will be very glad........but, we're not to sure about putting the boat on the lake then.
