I have never been down to the Cheesman area but some of my friends want to plan a camping trip down that way later this month.

What should I expect as far camping areas are concerned? Is that entire area all reserve/pay camping or are there areas where you can get off the beaten path and away from the masses? I'm not asking for your favorite camping spot, I just want to know what to expect- asphalt parking lots with neighbors 20 yds away is not my idea of camping.

I used the search function prior to posting this and could not come up with any specific info.

Thanks for your insight.

as i recall from the goose creek road there is a trail head at molly gulch where you can hike down goose creek to the lake about 2 3/4 miles. most of the goose creek road is in pike ntl forrest and open to camping. that area is under the fairplay ranger district if you want to give them a call

I camped near Cheeseman a few years back... Actually back 7/2009 now that i check my records LOL .

We found a nice spot along the creek in this area :

39.229699, -105.337140

There was no fee or anything.

Descent camp spot with trees...

If you crossed the creek and start up the hill you are right by the burn area.

Have not been since so I cannot confirm it is still open for camping but I would assume it still is.
