On Saturday I fished Cherry Creek for Walleye and Trout, but ended up with ten shad.  The weather was much better than expected, cool but not windy or rainy.  The water temperature was 40 degrees along the dam.

I started fishing from my boat at 7am.  I was using six rods on which I rotated a Lucky Craft 78 Pointer, jig and grub, Kastmaster, and a Panther Martin.  I occasionally worked in a Sinko, Rat-L-Trap, Rapala, and a Fat Free Shad.

On my fifth cast of the Craft 78 Pointer I hooked a small trout, but lost it at the boat.  At that time I thought I was in for an good day of fishing, but little did I know my next bite wouldn’t come until 3pm

Between 3pm and 4pm I hooked at least 20 shad and landed ten of them, all on a Kastmaster.   Some of the shad were foul hooked and others were hooked near the mouth, but never in the mouth.  During this period I rotated my Kastmaster, Rat-L-Trap, and Fat Free Shad.  With the Rat-L-Trap and Fat Free Shad I was trying to catch anything looking to make a meal of the shad.  I was off the lake by 5pm.

This was the first time I’ve fished Cherry Creek in 26 years, and I wasn’t sure what to expect.  I’ll try Cherry Creek a few more times this year in hopes of catching a monster walleye.

I also fished Cherry Creek Friday and Saturday. Friday I got their after 4pm and did get a few hits. saturday I was fishing near the dam buy the beach and handicap outcrops. I caught my first trout around 8am on chartruase power nuggets and I caught another same bait around 10am, from 10 10 1 pm I caught 3 more on worms. All of the fish were on the bottom. I tried every lure in my box but no luck. I saw alot of trout caught both days and most were 14" with a nice 20". I only kept one it seems like they were hitting all day must be the full moon
