I was up at 11-mile on sunday and caught a nice fat 15+ in bow. I noticed that the front right fin was clipped. It was just a little stub. I have seen this before on other fish i have caught. Is this a "sign" that this fish was raised in a hatchery?

I would think so but I thought they cut the little top fin.

Ive been thinking about buying those really little safty pins and tagging some fish just for the hell of it. Is there a law against this?

Its normal to see fish that were raised in a hatchery with worn fins, if not missing them all together...they get worn off in the concrete runways they swim around in.....

the trout in hatcheryes also bite the fins due to over crowding even more so than wearing out on the concrete

the only reference (that i have found) to tagging/marking fish is that it is illeagle to hold a competition that awards prizes for marked fish with out special permision
