So, my girl and I went up to fall river reservoir this weekend..... I figured hey let's go to the mountains get away from people... Ha I guess in Colorado that doesn't exist anymore. Everyone is over fishing and over crowding this place. We have been to numerous hard to get to places only to find out..... It's full of people.... One guy at a pulled out 9 fish and just pulled them to the bank and let them die.... I guess that's the problem as to why there aren't fish anymore like there used to be. Guess I'll just keep trying until I can move to a less populated area.... If I drive 3 hours and hike 2 miles back in and still wind up around 37 other people around a small mountain lake... It's too crowded.

Welcome to Calirado!!!
Ranger at chatty that checked our licenses said they inspected over 75 boats yesterday alone. Weekend before they totalled over 200 in the weekend. Both weekends at chatty have been a full on sausagefest. The dumbasses in the jet ski's have ZERO respect for fisherman and run 30 yards from the bank. I give them the middle fin. Luckly no one knows my rock pile besides one other forum dude. Was up high in southpark weekend prior and the parking lot was MAXED out. Counted over 40 fisherman and had to walk atleast 1/4 mile till there wasnt a bait dunker. Half of these idiots are fishing for trout all over the state with powerbait. Which im good with. The fishing has gone downhill cause there are SO many people fishing and SO much pressure on them at every lake. For example like 5 years ago we used to float tube lowell ponds and have 30 bass days. Sense then ive seen almost every mujado in there keeping fish. Even saw one with like 15 bass on the stringer and like 10 gills, they bring 5 kids so they can just line the banks with rods... Nobody really gives a fk about the fish and or the trash they leave behind. I cant stand MFs these days.

There are no secret spots anymore and the state doesn't have alot of water.

But there is still good fishing to be had, just have to put in the time. And this is a popular time to go fishing. especially
for weekend warrior types-later this summer and fall the numbers will dwindle.

Sucks about people doing illegal and unethical things with fish. Complaining about too many people going to the same place you went seems silly and immature. Fall river res is super close to town too so that's what happens.

I wanna feel your pain but the only thing I'm gonna add is i saw 2 dreadlocked hippies engaging in coitus in the poodle position in a parked Volkswagen bus, when I hiked up there years back.

Maybe try some of the harder to access nearby lakes?

Just used it as a example.. Many other places that require 2-3 hours and some tougher roads than fall river or chinns and people are just everywhere. Not complaining, just wondering like has over the last 10 years this state just got so overloaded with people?

I'm going to preface this by saying I've never been into smoking dope but I just don't see people moving here just for the weed!

Out of genuine curiosity, have there been studies or polls done that have the numbers on how many transplants truly moved here because of legalization?

I think it is impossible to get away from people in Colorado, about 30 years ago my son and I wanted to do some long range shooting so we headed up above timber line on a rough 4wd road to a meadow I knew about. at the end of the road there we found 14 rigs parked. we looked around then heard voices and looked around and saw 47 people on the ridges all around this high meadow. the other side of the ridge had a 4wd road that ended at about 13000 feet. we found out that it was a good place to hike some 14ers. we wound up going way down low and shooting in a long meadow that wasn't as long as we wanted, because behind us about 1/2 mile there was 4 houses that weren't there 3 years before. it was national Forrest then.
