Colorado Springs Bass Ponds

I'd like to preface saying that I'm not asking for specific spots.

I’ve been teaching myself how to fish this year in an attempt to get in to healthier habits, so I’m sorry if these are stupid questions. I’ve been searching on the forum but haven’t really found info that I’m looking for.

I live in Colorado Springs and really would like to target Bass. The public spots around here are pretty much stocker trout (slimers I think y’all call them?). Prospect has a lot of different species, but… it’s Prospect… if you know what I mean. John Townsend looks decent, but haven’t had a chance to fish it because of some issues with the permit I bought.

I know some of the reservoirs up North and Pueblo have some good bass spots, but I’m trying to find something that isn’t an hour away

I’ve been on Google Earth and have been marking small pond size bodies of water that I’d like to scope out. Before I go on this hunt I’d like to find out my chances of finding something viable.

My questions are (and again, I’m not looking for anyone to give up specific spots):

-Do you think it’s likely that any small ponds in CO Springs would have bass?
-What’s the best way to find out if I can fish said ponds? GIS Website?
-Has anyone had luck fishing for bass in smaller spots in the Springs? (Again, don’t need specifics, just generally speaking)

Yes. Fish until told otherwise if no signs. Yes.
middy, you are asking for a LOT, given your 4 posts. Perhaps participate for a while, post a few reports and contribute a bit before going for gold. It's kinda like asking the hot girl (or guy if that's your thing) for a bj having never introduced yourself.
Can’t really contribute if I don’t have a starting point to gather my own info, can I, Oyey?
Just getting my bearings as a new angler.

Very familiar with the atlas Pikester. I'm gathering info on stuff that's not on that map.

Thanks for the salty replies fellas!
My post wasn't meant to be salty but lend a little hand in finding info and new waters you might be able to use. If you want different info use the site search function, that's why we keep it around with a lot of good info on it!!

Ahh sorry Pikester. Thanks for the gesture.
The search on here has helpful for sure. Just wasn't finding the info I was looking for after a few days of searching. My eyes aren't what they once were so maybe I missed it :biggrin1:
No problem. One thing to keep in mind is the members on this site know how precious small ponds are and we have all seen them get blown up by info given out freely to people that don't know how to use the info the correct way. Getting info handed out like that is really tough around on this site when it is thrown out like candy on most of the other sites.Don't feel slighted but like Oyey said stick around and get to know some members from that area and join the circus here! Welcome!!!
Very good point. Definitely don’t want to be apart of anything blowing up.
Sorry for any abrasiveness on my part, guys.
Hope to contribute more in the future.

I'm not sure what the issue with your permit for townsend reservoir is but my son bought a permit yesterday with no issues and fished it for the first time tonight. Caught a few really small ones before landing a decent size bass.

GREAT way to get a trespassing ticket, in Colorado you do not have to post private land. Better to find out if it's public first...

Wow... great attitude... Asking for the best of waters (small, with bass, not private is soooo tough) wants the goods before giving a thing. That's weak IMO... There's tons of ways to contribute and tons of ways to hook up with good fisherman, this is not one of them :biggrin1:

Oh, and if you re-read my initial response without a defensive attitude, you will realize it was light and to the point, not abrasive. This one on the other hand.......
go to the CPW office on sinton road and ask to talk to the biologist that works out of there .he can tell you about all the public waters in his area

Oyey, not sure if you saw it but I did apologize for my abrasiveness in a later reply. Anyway, I’ll apologize again now. Sorry for being defensive. It wasn’t my intention to try and get something for nothing here and really wasn’t wanting anyone to give up a specific spot.

I understand that these smaller waters are precious, and no one wants them to be abused, or made popular. I don’t want to contribute to that.

I just wasn’t even remotely sure that small stuff in my area was even capable of holding Bass since most of the waters that appear on the atlas on my side of town mostly show trout.

Mwcarl, I purchased a year permit online, and then when I went to the visitor center to get a vehicle (or personnel) pass they said that the iSport system wasn’t showing that I had purchased the permit and that they couldn’t issue me a pass. They suggested I come back in a week. I got a lot of conflicting info from everyone I talked to on base, so not even sure what I need. Going to try again this weekend. Nice fish by the way!

Thanks for the tip walleye seeker, will definitely check that out.

I saw it.. but an apology is not necessary.. I just was hoping you (and others) might realize how tough of a request it is.... especially when you are so new. I wish you luck... I know of only one and I'm not willing to discuss it (which sucks, but it is just necessary). What really sucks, is I know of ONE... I have plenty of trout info to help with!!! :biggrin1:
