I've been flyfishing for about 5 years, and I've probably fished Deckers at least a couple of times a month for the last three. Yesterday I got into an olive hatch that had fish on the surface for a good hour or so. For surface action it was about as good as some of the caddis hatches I've hit there.

My question to some of you long-timers is how close have the olive hatches been this spring to what they were pre fire?

I would say pretty close. Before the fire, I would say one of the can't go wrong fly pattern to use there was an RS2. Lots of olives and worms pre fire. Now there are a lot more caddis and stoneflys after the fire.

don't leave home without the rs2 in different colors(olive, gray, green) and sizes(22-18). also dorsey's midge patterns are the ticket also. i fish tandem rig 100% with the rs2 as the point fly 18"-20" back from the midge, split shot depending on depth and/or cfs, no indicator freestylin.
