My wife and I and our daughter (4) are planning to spend a couple weeks in the Denver area next summer. I am trying to find an area that is in close proximity to trout fishing streams and moderate hiking with views. We don't mind being off the beaten path (I actually prefer it). I am looking for advice on areas that I can research. We are not sure if we want to camp or rent a cabin/home so we are open to all ideas. Thanks for helping me make this family vacation special!

To get off the beaten path, you are going to have to get away from driving distance from Denver, as everybody heads out with the same idea. You probably should be looking at Northwest Colorado or South Central, but it will take you 6 hours or so to get there from Denver. However, closer in is the Big Thompson river, Poudre river, Platte, Arkansas and Colorado. These all offer mountains, hiking, and camping, just not solitude.
