Just curious what are you guys favorite discontinued lures? The one you would pay almost anything for if you saw them on Ebay.

Mine is the old Storm Lightning Shad. Every August we have the Walleye Central Get-together at Glendo. By then the water level has recessed to the point where the coves are dry and all the shad move out over the channel and suspend. The walleye's are right there suspended with them anywhere from 15-25 feet.

The Lightning Shad would dive up to 25 feet deep, but was still only 3" long. It was also short and flat sided like a Shad. I had a couple of great days trolling them up there and they also worked well at Pueblo during the summer!

I only have three left now  So I am saving them for this August!

Man that is a good question! I'm looking for original style Hot-n-Tots....you know the ones with the metal bill on the front? The pumpinseed color doesn't seem to be on the new versions that just don't fish the same. "Don't fix it if it ain't broke."

E-bay...I better start getting used to searching this site for fishing equipment.

Not sure? I think they were short and squatty like a shad or small crappie and they dove to 25'! I didn't have to use leadcore or snap weights to get to the depth I wanted. Risto Raps are almost the same shape and Eric/CO boat caught a 30" eye the same weekend on one. Maybe they like the vibration the bass style cranks give off when the water is warm?

Where did you find the Tiger? You are the first person i know that has hooked up with one at Chatfield. How many years have they been in there? They should get big there, with all that forage?

Iron Chef,

You don't happen to have a better description of the location or gps coordinates do you?

Someone mentioned in a post a couple of months ago that there are indeed 2 bridges, one a road bridge and the other a railroad bridge.

Not to jump off the subject but I have only heard about one tiger that the DOW has netted besides the one you said you lost boatside. However, that lake has been stocked with over 100,000 tigers since 1987. Last time I heard they stocked it was in 2001 with 6,500. It's been five years so there has to be some close to 40" if they are still there. I know that a lot of muskie fisherman don't like the fact that they even stocked Chatfield with tigers because they don't survive with all the other dominant predatory fish such as the eyes. Oh yeah, my favorite discontinued lure would have to be the original mepps spinners. I can't find them anymore.

My two favorite lures that have been discontinued are the risto raps and rattlin fat raps from rapala. I still buy them off ebay though.
The #4 risto rap is the deadliest bass crank around. I catch probably 1/3 of my giant bluegills of it too. It casted well for a little lure, had good colors and a nice wobble, and had a nice, slow rise that was easy to get to suspend with a couple suspendots.
However rapala discontinued it. In it's place came the dives to series, a ridiculously large crankbait that doesn't work well for bass in CO because we don't have large forage. It catches pike and trout though.
And of course the old rattlin' fat rap. I have a collection of the #4 size. They cast like an arrow, dive to 10 feet on 6 pound test, and just catch bass and trout like mad.
Another casuality is the mepps weedmaster spinner, the best inline pike spinner around. It was a large spinner available in Colorado or Willow Leaf blade, that had the hook protected by a soft plastic skirt. It came through weeds and northerns smashed it. But a pike hit it right at boatside last spring at Rio Blanco and before I could get the drag loose he broke the line with a loud pop. About a 7 or 8 pound pike that was close to 30".

crankbait:

cordell rattle spot - they may make them now still? they changed them in the early 90's and the bbs in them and color scheme made them not as effective.

metal lipped hot n' tots - i have a bunch but they are old. now hot n' tots just don't seem the same.

plastics:

gillraker 4" worms along with slider hooks/heads

I know these aint discontinued, but they're harder to find. So far, the only place I've found em at is Dick's.

Culprit
Plastic Worms.

I'd use those over any other plastic worms any day. Even over the Berkley Power Worm stuff. The action is unbeatable. They aint 'tournament' strength, but I have no problem with that. As long as they give me the catch rate that they do.
