some of the funnest fishing of the year is catching lakes from shore in the fall at granby and knowing its unlikely but you still do have the chance at a monster makes the trip well worth it ....screw the d.o.w. its not the lakes they care about its the almighty dollar . hmmmmm would i rather catch one 30lb laker or koke's all summer . me personally I want that big laker take a picture for a fiberglass replica let him go and hope our paths cross again .This forum has over 500 members now and is only gonna get bigger why not start petition(cant spell) . If a couple hundred members get a couple hundred signatures we will have to be heard . The hate for pike in this state is unreal . I cant think of a better way to spend a weekend then fishin for pike with buzzbaits . Talk about explosive strikes and hard fighters what a great gamefish. Its funny how its seems quite obvious that the d.o.w. cares more about the guys who go up once a month catch a limit of stocker rainbows (some smaller we have all seen the dudes with the 7 inch rainbows on a stringer) . Then leave all there trash go home and forget about the lake for another year . Its guys like all of us that support the whole fishing industry in colorado . We buy our licenses with our second rod stamps . Then you have the weekly trips to the tackle store were you just cant seem to get everything you want . I probably spend over 5,000 a year on fishing, fishing tackle, gas to get to spots, mounting fish, and other things that go along with a good trip(beer) . So how are the guys who spend a couple afternoons on the lake more important then the trophy seeking crowd who has a pasion for the fish the lake and the whole sport . sorry so long its early and im rambling

Man, reading that makes me sick!!!

some big, eye-popping fish that stretch beyond the humdrum of ordinary angling? Get rid of them. Afraid that some big, toothy critter might eat some precious hatchery rainbows or kokanee? Off with their heads.

whats next..........is the d.o.w. gonna take this approach with warm water fishery's too.....are they gonna put a hit out on largemouths for eatting bluegill .....if the number of kokes is declining why not lower the bag limit on them first before ruining one of the big game fish we have in colorado ........I wonder what would happen to a coldwater lake if the d.o.w. left it alone for a few years ......

Jays right, we've talked about this a thousand of times. Any angler reading this article should be outraged .  The time for talk is over boys, we REALLY need to do something about this.  From the article, these are "proposals" so perhaps there's still time. This would ABSOULTLY kill Granby as a lake trout fishery.

Boy this really pisses  me off. I fish Granby quite a bit and talk to alot of the anglers out there and most of them are fishing for Macks. Fished the big ice tourny last yr. & the DOW was out there taking measurements and other info about Macks which I thought might be to help bring back the slot limit. I don't know apparently they were planning the demise of the mack? ??? I had alot of questions for the guy which were not answered. I normally don't waste my time complaining about the DOW because it is just like complaining about the govmt, its not gettin you anywhere unless you stand up and do something about it. Last year the DOW and the cattlemans assoc. tryed to slip a new tag allocation past us that would have given land owners alot more tags and screw us avg. hunters. You should have seen the look on the DOW guys faces when 200 guys & Girls showed up to the meeting( which was not advertisedand to be held in a 20x20 rm). The only reason anyone found out about it is because it was in the paper(forgot the writers name.) Anyway FishingGuitar has a good point if anything is going to be done about it us fisherman need to stand together to get a point across to the DOW(Demise Of Wildlife), one e-mail here and there won't even get looked at. Sorry about the lengthy complaint.SeeYas By the way when I checked back that tag allocation didn't go through.

what i dont understand is what person fishing would not like to hook into some monster i understand the revenue gennerated by stokers but i also believe that the casual fisherman or woman would create a lifelong memory if they got a monster rather than 10 or 15, 10-12in trout. also what about people who spend $ every week just to enjoy a hobbie i dont think i would fish as much if i didn't have the thought of hooking a big fish i am totaly disgusted by this idea and by their arrogance

Well once I find out where the meeting are Ill attend everyone . So maybe the next time one of these bonehead idea's comes up we can organize and put an end to it fast . Im sure we have numbers on our side . I no matter what it takes if we get organized and have a plan they have to listen . If it takes setting up a desk infront of all the sportsmans warehouses and getting signatures we could do that .

maybe another reason they dont seem to care about lake trout at all is that it would be pretty hard to target them with a fly rod . (trout unlimited)

I don't think TU has anything to do with it. I think it's primarily driven by the chambers of commerce, restaurant owners, motel owners, etc., that derive their income from the touristas coming to the mountains to catch some Genuine Rocky Mtn. Rainbow Trout and to troll up some genuine Kokanee Salmon. They wouldn't have the slightest idea how to catch a real wild trout. Sadly, they'll go home having whacked some anemic stockers thinking what a grand time it all was and bragging about how many they've brought home to put in the freezer. Pretty pathetic, but those are the tourists whose dollars unfortunately drive stupid regulation changes like the ones that are being proposed.
