I notice on many fishing forums the members have pet names for the species they fish for. For instance there is one called a slimer and yes I've seen a lure called that, but I suspect this is in reference to a fish. If there is a glossery of terms on this forum would someone be kind enough to tell me where it is?

LOL! Slimer is a derogatory term for 10 to 12 inch rainbow trout raised in hatcheries and stocked liberally in Colorado waters by the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

Other synonyms for the same fish include MRTs (Magnificent Rainbow Trout <sarcasm>), forage, stockers and snot rockets.

I'll focus on those not mentioned

Brook Trout - brookies - speckled trout - speckies
Lake trout - Lakers - Macks - Mackinaw - Tongue - in lake superior different sub species (Siscowet, Red Fin, Humpy, Mackinaw)
Rainbows - bow (or cutbow), steelhead (lake run)

Then there are hibrids,
And most any fish Zman catches should be called small, most any fish Slayer catches should be called huge.

ie, small walleye about 28 inches long,

vs huge perch about 9 inches long.
