Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone knows how one could look up what fish are available at what lakes/resevoirs? I checked the DOW and it doesn't show all the bodies of water that are available, such as prospect ponds, riverbend ponds, and sheldon park lake, those are all located in Ft. Collins btw. Thanks in advance!

About half way down the page is a section called "Lakes and Reservoirs Directory"

That is the fastest place that I have found that has all the information on most the lakes I've looked at.

Kadiya,

Those DOW reports are helpful but not always accurate I have found. The reports lean more towards what has officially been stocked in a body of water and not what might have been introduced by the local bucket biologist. Although I have not fished the ponds you are talking about I'm sure there are plenty of people on this board who have and can offer a sampling of what they found. Can anyone help?

Thanks ePic that's a nice page, I didn't find what I was looking for tho, I guess it's too little. I heard from one of the other members here that one of those lil ponds has muskie in it, I just wanted to confirm it and try to figure out which pond over there had the muskie since there's several of them there.

Kadiya, the Prospect Pond that has the muskies in it is the third one from Prospect. The first pond is private, the second one I was told had a total fish kill a couple of years ago and the third one is the pond with Muskies. I was out there today and a guy there told me he saw someone catch a 30" Northern Pike yesterday, which I believe was actually a Tiger Muskie. I have never heard of Pike being in there also, but I do know the Tigers are in there!

ok cool I thought so! Thanks so much Scorpion, I was going to try it this afternoon but I chickened out, I need to get those mouth opener things, cuz I know when I'm not prepared that'd be when I'd get one! Just what I need to lose a pinkie or something. I was also wondering if the back pond might have them too. I heard the same thing about that second one, there's absolutely nothing in there, it's because of the fertilizer from that farm next to the first one. But the one in back I was also wondering about is that one by the bike trail if you walk thru the lil stream there's another good sized pond back there. Have you heard anything about it?

Scorpion,

Do You fish Prospect Ponds regularly?  Do you know what else is in there?  Maybe we (including Kadiya) can meet up someday.  What do you think?  How about a wednesday afternoon?  I also heard about Sheldon Lake in the city park being fishable and actually stocked with trout regularly.  Have you ever fished there?  Hope I am not asking too many questions.  Thanks!!

Hey Scorpion,

I just checked it out this morning... I might've gotten up too late! I went around 10 and stayed till almost noon. Usually I see fish jumping like crazy there but I didn't even see a ripple, I was in there with my neoprene waders and the water still felt really cold, maybe it was a tad too cold today for them to bite, did you have any luck at all last time you went? I checked out the pond near the back too but didn't seem like there was much activity there either. =(

Mustang: I think it's pretty good for bass but that's usually when it's warmer when we got some minnows/goldfish to try out there we were getting lil bass with every cast, but that was in the middle of a nice warm summer day, caught a lunker there once with minnows, but he unhooked himself when he was about a foot and half from shore... we think it was a bass we weren't too sure. Only thing I don't like about that place are all the weeds in the water and mucky crap, pretty clear right now but in the summer it can get bad. Might be a tad too chilly right now too. I'll try minnows next week maybe and let you know what happens.

Yes, I do fish these ponds regularly, I even fish them on my lunch break from work! As far as what else is in there, I have caught some crappie but not very big ones and some decent little cats. The sign over at the parking lot also says that there is walleye in there but I have never seen one come out of there or heard of one. Mainly, I catch bass in there. I'm trying for them tigers tho! There is also some pretty big carp in there.

I haven't fished city park in a long time but I have a friend that does and he says he always catches trout in there.

I went out there today on my lunch break and I did catch one. It was a 12" Largemouth but that was all I caught. The water is still a little cold but it is picking up. I have never had any luck with that last little pond but I know there is bass in it, I have seen a guy that goes out there regularly pull out some decent bass. I'm sure there is some cats in it also.
