Why do they require any legal size fish to be killed immediately.
That's the land/water rights owners rules. You have to fill out a card of every fish you kill, they than take that number, end it to the biologists of the German state your in, and order fish to be restocked
my understanding is that they feel that catch and release is inhumane, so they want all fish kept.
Germans have queer notions of what is "humane"
Infidel, thats for the report/link. Very neat.
I've always been facinated by the idea of hunting and fishing in Europe, however the laws and mentality towards game over there is quite a bit different from here in many cases.

As Infidel pointed out, the landowner where he fished made the rules. In Europe game and fish in many parts are considered property of the landowner, not property of the public as here in the states.

Quite odd and makes me thankful for the mentality we have in the States on fish and game.
Cool! No trout for me, but I'd like to chase some giant zanders there.
Interesting post for sure. Nice fish. Thanks a lot for the post!

I actually agree with them.

You would not agree with los Germanos, were you not possessed of a prefrontal cortex.

As fish are lacking this critical piece of anatomy, ideas of cruelty as applied to more evolutionarily advanced chordates are irrelevant.

Fish are incapable of a subjective interpretation of reality in much the same way a person who has a damaged or missing prefrontal cortex is thus impeded. The autonomic functions are intact, and reactions to external stimulus may be observed, but there are no "good feelings" or "bad feelings." Things don't hurt if you don't experience them as negative. Lacking the subjective experience of good or bad sensation, fish are incapable of sentience.

I still dispatch them with all due haste when I intend to consume them; this is because I am sentient and anthropomorphize them despite my understanding of their anatomy.

To put it in simple terms, fish do not experience pain in the way we do, or the way a chimp or a dog does. They are biologically incapable.

SS
infidel - hope its going well over there. Always interesting to see the fish and laws of different places.

Those fish are chunks for sure, it is kind of shitty to have to kill that fat female but I know its not a choice over there. Looks like she was full of eggs too.

Keep sharing please. and some scenery. something different for us frost bitten Coloradan's
Swimbait do you get a boner showing off how smart you are on a fishing forum  guess just another jack ass that makes this place so entertaining.
She was full of eggs. I asked the baron today why we are only allowed to fish one section until 1 march. It's about 1/4 of a mile he has open, he calls it trophy Kane. He will close that section from March until September, he said today he needs the number thinned out for biological reasons, his words

I dunno, dude. He made perfect sense to me: it's OK to eat fish cuz they don't have any feelings.
