Just wondering what kind of line(s)(brands and types) you die-hard fishermen use. I was thinking about getting the Berkley Fireline. Has anyone use that. If you have? How's the performance on it?

90% of the time I use mono-Trilene XL to be exact.6 lb most all the time,10 lb if the big ones start breaking the 6 lb.I change my line about every 50-60 days. I go through a 1000 yard spool of the 6 lb per year. The 10 lb 1000 yd spool will last about 2 years. The lighter the line you can use in a given situation will get the most bites.

Tried the iron silk and hated it. Never tried the fireline but heard nice stuff about it. I use spider wire 30lb and love it. True the lighter line is more sensitive but I just get sick of my line breaking off all the time when lifting the fish out the water (should really carry a net) or from snags. Never have this problem with spiderline. Just hate the price though.

Fireline is what I use-the 4 lb. dia, 10 lb. test stuff. Its great-real good sensitivity. I alway tie a 6-8" leader of Vanish flurocarbon on the end-I'm convinced you'll get more bites , especially when you're fishing clear water. Like Jay said-do a search, theres alot on this subject and everybody has their personal favorite. Ed

This thread gets re-hashed all the time, but new line is introduced almost weekly,so... It all depends on what you are gonna use the line for.For bait dunkin almost any line will work.I dont like the superlines for throwing lures, you lose castability plus fish see it very well.If you havent noticed, most colo lakes are gin-clear.Working twister tails in deeper water(25-50 ft) begs for fireline! So it all depends.

I have Iron Silk on my Trout rods, and really like it. I tried it in 8 or 6 pounds and it sucked. It may have just been a bad spool? Whenever I get line that has memory (comes off the spool w/ kinks still in it), I soak it. I use 3 parts water, and 1 part liqiud fabric softener. I rinse it off before fishing. It works!

Jay --- Do you ever shore fish? I'm asking because I've considered the Shakespere Cajin Red. I fish shallow alot though, and have wondered about visability. I don't know whether to believe them. About how red is the least visable color underwater (after 3 feet or something). Or believe the red hook hype. I switched to floro recently, and want to change back to mono.

Up till this summer I always fished from shore. Last year I caugth over 100 bass @ Quincy. Some times in as little as 6in water. When the line Is in the water I cant see it at all. Wheather the fish see it or not im not sure. I had a day a few months ago where I got 16 walleyes. A few nights where we got over 30 smallies. Id say with those #'s its safe to say it works fine

IMO

i recently purchased some fireline 10lb test and i have never used a colored line before so i hope that it doesn't affect fishing in a negative way. i did have some 8lb smooth casting line and that stuff frayed and snapped with just a little tug horrible i will never even consider it again i proberly lost $50 worth of lures to that crap

make sure that if you use the fireline that you put a mono backing on your reel first and use the knots that they show you, otherwise the fireline is so slippery that a normal knot will come undone and it will slip on the spool of your reel if you dont put a backing on. i learned all this stuff the hard way but now all i use is fireline on my spinning stuff, you can cast a mile when it is spooled up right. tried it on my baitcaster and didn't like it though, it seemed really noisy through the guides, i don't seem to notice the noise that much with my spinners. definetely don't like fireline when it is cold out, the line seems to collect a lot of water and freezes up alot. but a far as what you can feel the lure is doing i think the fireline is second to none, i love the sensitivity.dont like the price, but is anything good cheap???

These days I've been using Stren superbraid and Berkley vanish transition. I like them both so far...

how long of a backing should i use and what test
you have to kind of guess as too how much backing to use, it depends on the size of your spool, most of the rolls of fireline are only 125 yards unless you buy the big rolls(thats what i do) and you don't want to over or under fill your reel. at the price of this stuff you dont want to waste it.

Went and got Fireline 14lb(don't want to lose any more lures). Casted out very smooth. Got more distance and definitely compliments my reel. Hahaha. Got my son the Berkley 6lb invisible or whatever line. Very nice and smooth.

Thanks for everyone's input-
