Fly Fishing Reports Questionnaire

I fly fish for trout, bass, blue gill, crappie, pike, or anything else that will bite my fly. I have not hooked a wiper or a walleye with a fly yet but maybe this year. I also Kelly Galloup has designed a nice crayfish fly which has peaked my interest cause this has good bass possiblilities and maybe even a catfish on a fly that would be kewl.

I also dont limit myself to trout...my favorite---well, ok, if i HAD to pick a favorite fish to catch on a fly--- are wipers. however snook and redfish are a close second and pike are hard too beat, too, especially if you find yourself some big ones..and if you look hard enough at the right time of year you can find some pretty big ones in colorado believe it or not

damn, come to think of it maybe i dont have a favorite fish....

I, like the rest , will fish for anything that will bite. Lately I've been trying to catch a wiper that I got a few weeks ago. Didn't have a camera at the time, So I need to get him again. I estimated him between 26 and 28 inches and well over 10 lbs. I've caught King salmon on a flyrod before and it was nothing compared to the fight that wiper put up.

I fly fish in saltwater. Ive caught snook up to 40" less than 5 feet from the beach. In my opinion there is nothing like it. Ill be going back to florida here in 3 weeks for more. Ive been counting the days for months. It far outweighs any fish in freshwater-including wiper.

For fish we have in Co waters, carp are probably the most fun to pursue with a fly. They are plentiful in most waters, get pretty big and fight very good. They get really skittish when they school in the shallows, so there's challenge involved too.

In Colorado you can get a superslam in a day between trout, bass, walleye, crappie and carp in one body of water.

So I have been looking to get into this so I can fill my fly fishing fix without having to travel as far. What type of flies do you guys use? How should I change my approach, style, etc. I've been fly fishing since I could hold a rod; but I grew up in Idaho in an area where in all honesty there weren't much warm water options - or at least we never had any interest in them.

What should I buy to get started?
