I've been looking around for a custom rod builder (ice rod) and it seem like the guys/girls up in Minnesota use fly reels on there ice rods. Does anybody here do that or tried it?

I never would use one. There is a guy in Steamboat that does a great job making rods. Rocky Mountain Rod Works I believe is the name. Al Miller I think is his name.

You are probably seeing the little Schooley rods and reels that are very popular there. They are very inexpensive, simple, don't twist up the line and don't freeze up which is important back there in the sub zero temps they usually fish in if they don't have a hut. Not real popular around here because they usually fish for panfish back there and around here it's more trout, walleye and lakers which would tear up those little plastic reels! Give me a call if you want to talk about ice rods for around here and maybe we can work something out. Jeff Looney (720) 971-4224
