I caught some of the most obese rainbows I have ever seen today...they look like oprah after an all you can eat vegas buffet.

I'm guessing this is due to the spawn but I'm not sure since I am still pretty new to the trout thing. man, those were some fat-assed fish. I was at Windsor reservior...water temp was 45 degrees.

Any ideas on this?

Were you fishing Windsor Reservoir, or Windsor Lake? Also, what were you using for tackle/bait? Finally, where on the lake were you fishing? I fished last year at Windsor Lake and pulled out a few nice fish around this time of year. I fished the SW side, but this year I've seen most people in the NW side. Congrats on the big fish!

the spawn is very stressful on fish and alot of times they dont eat for a while during it, except maybe to protect its spawning area. So they beef up before the spawn and then feed well after they are done with the spawn.

Wow I didn't realize that any of the waters up here in FoCo had gotten that warm yet.  With all of these cold fronts coming through with snow I'd thougt the water temps would have fallen some.

Edit: and actually now I'm curious too, was this Windsor Lake or Windsor Reservoir?  You don't have to say where you were fishing on the water, its just so I have an idea of what places are having any kind of bite Also were you shore fishing or on a boat?

It's the body of water that's right in Windsor..I dont know if that's the lake or the reservior. I was on the shore throwing rapalas, spinners and such. There were others there fishing as well...looked like they had worms or something out...they were just sitting on the beach with their rods propped on sticks. That looks extremely boring to me and I didn't see them catch anything but I was killing 'em for a couple hours. good fun.
