It looks like i will be able to bail of work early tomorrow and I was thinking to go ice fishing for the afternoon
Im taking ideas on where to go around denver.
I am looking for a nice ice thickness and at the same time not to have to drive a long time to get there or it will shorten the 'fun' time before the sun goes down

I checked Chatfield and Cherry creek and the ice does not seem thick enough but I might be wrong, i just took a look while passing by.

Any suggestions?

I would suggest avoiding any lakes in the metro area. The weather has been too mild the past few days and the ice was thin to begin with.

Depending on how far you are willing to drive I would suggest the mountains. Either Evergreen, (can be tough to catch fish), Georgetown, Sand in the ice dulls auger blades quickly but occasional decent size trout is caught) or Kriley in Golden Gate Canyon State Park (lots of stocker size fish but usually fast action.)
