I have a "Slayerfish" story...fishing the Delaney Buttes ice derby about a decade ago...a guy fishing next to us hooked the contest winner and was fishing by himself...fought the "fish" for quite awhile...I had come over to help him land it and started to stick my hand down the hole as it came up...pulled it back in a hurry...out came a very pissed off muskrat hooked by the flank with his jig...I laughed and said you are on your own...
When we were kids in Minnesota we would head down to the point (confluence of a river and creek) where you could catch some good northern pike...so we would go down and fling spoons on heavy line...well being kids and on a day when they werent biting your mind soon wandered after casting heavy spoons for an hour or so...pretty soon you were going through the motions and winging them high up in the air with rainbow casts and not really paying attention...well I had the rod almost jerked from my hands and set the hook with all my might...well much to my surprise I had hooked a mallard out of mid air and made him crash...him and the other ducks were so pissed...
My other two happened at Lake Estes...I hooked a trout in the mouth fought it...go it in and it already had a cord stringer attached...I thought that was pretty convenient...the other one at Estes was below the dam where the water is heavy and swirls...I was bait fishing and got a bite and got the fish in...only the sinker and hook was below him...the heavy currents had somehow tied a loop knot around his stomach and dorsal fin...lassoed him around the middle...I bet he was one surprised fish...I let him go...
